Mount Massive quick facts:
- Summit: 14,421 feet.
- Mount Massive gets its name from the number of peaks that make up its area. There are five total peaks on the mountain and the ridge line of Mt. Massive is over three miles long.
- Mount Massive has more surface area above any other mountain in the contiguous US than any other mountain.
- Due to its closeness in elevation to Mt. Elbert, only twelve feet separate the two, supporters of Mt. Massive being named the highest mountain in Colorado built a hill of rocks on top of the peak to try and edge out Mt. Elbert. Supporters of Mt. Elbert demolished the hill.
- Henry Gannett, of the Hayden Survey, is credited with the first summitting of Mt. Massive in 1873.
