Capitol Peak quick facts:
  • Capitol Peak was named by Ferdinand Hayden, an American geologist who surveyed a large part of the Rocky Mountain region in the 1800's, who said it reminded him of the US Capitol building. He had a very good imagination.
  • Summit: 14, 137 feet.
  • The mountain is part of the Elk Mountains in Colorado and considered one of the most difficult to climb. The only "non-technical" route involves crossing a several-hundred-foot-long "Knife Edge" that will kill you if you fall.
